Corporate Social Responsibility

NOT-FOR-PROFIT COOPERATIVE COMPANY
We are an employee-owned, not-for-profit cooperative company. By statute, our objective is to create job opportunities and cultural advancement for our partner employees, contributing in this way to social and economic development. Our net earnings are fully invested in improving our employees' performance and promoting skills development. Our statute recognises CSIL's vocation to research.
We govern the cooperative in a democratic, non-hierarchical and collaborative way. CSIL is a member of Legacoop, the association that brings together over 10,000 cooperative companies, active across all Italian regions and all sectors, committed to create development and enhance people and territories' roles. Cooperatives are inherently oriented towards sustainable development from an environmental, social and economic point of view.

ETHICAL FRAMEWORK AND ACCOUNTABILITY

CSIL’s commitment to fairness, transparency and inclusiveness is rooted in its Code of Ethics, which defines the principles guiding the behaviour of all partners, employees and collaborators. The Code promotes integrity, equal treatment and respect for individual dignity, and applies to all stakeholders. The Gender Equality Plan and the Gender Equality Management System build on these principles, translating them into structured actions, monitoring and continuous improvement.

SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY AND GLOBAL PERSPECTIVE

We treasure our independence and share a strong sense of social responsibility. We believe that applied economic research and the study of development processes, even on a small scalevor within a single industry or sector, can provide a meaningful contribution to society. To pursue this mission, we rely on a well-connected network of professionals based in different locations across Italy and Europe. While CSIL's core functions are centralised in Milan's headquarter, remote working allows us to maintain a global perspective, broaden the pool of available expertise and help people achieve a better work-life balance. Although we enjoy social interaction, we have procedures and strong organisational practices and IT services that allow us to deliver results effectively, both remotely and in the office. As a community, we promote active exchange and critical discussion through internal seminars, workshops and ongoing collaboration.

FAIRNESS, TRANSPARENCY, INCLUSIVENESS
Members participate in the life of the communities in which CSIL operates. We are inspired by the values of honesty, fairness and transparency, and work responsibly towards society, public opinion, and all those involved in the activities of the cooperative.
Women make up the majority of CSIL’s workforce, and we actively promote gender equality in research. We value diversity and work to create an inclusive and personally enriching work environment, maintaining a global mindset and an open approach to projects, partnerships and people.
Building on these principles, CSIL has adopted a Gender Equality Plan (GEP), approved by the Board of Directors and currently under implementation, which defines objectives and actions across key areas such as governance, work-life balance and career development. The organisation is also implementing a Gender Equality Management System in line with UNI/PdR 125:2022, with the objective of obtaining a Gender Equality Certification and to strengthen its monitoring and continuous improvement processes.

ISO CERTIFICATION

CSIL quality management system is ISO 9001:2015 certified and focuses on the motivation and engagement of members, the process approach and continual improvement. Led by the Board of Directors, CSIL members implement a quality control system that ensures consistent, high-quality services as well as the highest scientific relevance, factual accuracy and evidence-based conclusions.

SAFETY AND SUSTAINABILITY

At the organisational level, we are committed to maintaining high standards of safety, security, environmental protection and energy efficiency. We train, raise awareness and actively involve our staff in social responsibility and sustainability-related issues.
