Insights from Milan’s workshop on “the role of CBA in government decision-making”
As part of the Milan Summer School on Cost-Benefit Analysis of Investment Projects, CSIL, in cooperation with the University of Milan and the Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis, organized a workshop titled “The Role of CBA in Government Decision making: International Perspectives”.
Participants joined the workshop from over 25 countries, representing 90 institutions, including the European Commission, the European Investment Bank, the European Court of Auditors, JASPERS and the EU Innovation and Networks Executive Agency.
The sessions registered a growing use of CBA in public-sector decision-making and its application at various levels, in different countries and sectors, resulting in an increased attention towards the impact of major investment projects. The international Forum has also recorded the use of CBA in new policy areas, such as social policy and homeland security, as well as in the private sector, to support funding decisions and for instruments as social impact bonds.
The EC Guide to Cost-Benefit Analysis of Investment Projects, developed by CSIL, was one of the tools featured during the workshop to measure economic evaluations.
