A study on the “EU industrial policy”: CSIL experts at work

September 2014,

CSIL experts, in partnership with Economisti Associati and CASE, have  been awarded a contract by the European Parliament for a study on ‘EU industrial policy: Assessment of recent developments and recommendations for future policies’. This study will feed into the work carried out by the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and contribute to forge the position of the European Parliament in this field.

The objective of the study is to assess the effectiveness of an "EU industrial policy" and to take stock of the different measures taken to ensure that industrial growth takes off in the EU in the context of re-industrialisation and creation of high skilled jobs in manufacturing and in related services. In addition, the study is expected to elaborate some policy recommendations relative to i) whether some new policies should be envisaged and in which domain of applicability; ii) whether there is a need for an improved and /or refined implementation of existing actions.

As part of the methodology developed for this study, CSIL experts are currently involved in interviews at EU, national and regional level with stakehodlers informed on the development of the Industrial Policy. The study will also rely on a Delphi-like survey involving top-experts from the academic world and international organisation (e.g. OECD) in order to infer a meaningful scenario about the future of an EU industrial policy.

The study is expected to be completed by the December 2014.
