Workshop on the value of Earth Observation at ESA-ESRIN
On July 1-3 the GEOValue Community organised at ESA-ESRIN (Frascati, Italy) a workshop aimed at advancing the understanding and measurement of the societal benefits of Earth Observations.
Representatives from the ESA, European Commission, OECD, EARSC, national space agencies and practitioners from different disciplines discussed the motivation and challenges of valuing EO and presented examples of impact measurements through showcases from Copernicus and other programmes. Areas for methodological improvement were identified and recommendations for next steps were formulated.
Emanuela Sirtori (CSIL partner and senior economist) and Alessandra Caputo (researcher) participated in the workshop.
In the field of the European Space Policy, CSIL ha recently carried out the study "Societal Criteria in Upstream Space Infrastructure Procurement" and authored the report "Space Market Uptake in Europe". CSIL has also been awarded the European Commission DG GROW Framework Contract "Ecosystem Support for Copernicus and the EU space policy", in consortium with SpaceTec Partners.
